Do We Need Flavor Enhancer in Our Food?

Some of us may add flavor enhancer in their food because it may have benefit in increasing appetite and obtaining umami taste in our food. Flavor enhancer is food additives ingredient that usually add to intensify aroma and savory taste. One example of flavor enhancer is Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) that made of starch fermentation and molasses. When using Monosodium Glutamate, it is important to consider its sodium content. Sodium is micro nutrient that our body need in little amount. However, if you over consume it, then the risk of degenerative disease (like hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease) may increases.

Basically, we can create umami and savory taste in our food with simple way; you can add herbs and other food seasoning such as shrimp paste, garlic, celery, and etc. That proper amount combination can give you umami and savory taste that you need. So, it does not important to add MSG in your food to enhance taste.
