Is there any nutrition left in your fruits?
Generally, nutrition content in fruits decreases after harvesting and will decrease even more if the packaging and storage method is not suitable for the fruit’s characteristic. Keeping fruits in the refrigerator is a great way to reduce the loss of nutrition value in fruits because growth of microorganism is inhibited at low temperatures. Some nutrition like vitamin C,lycopene, zeaxanthin, andlutein will still decrease. However, there are some nutrition that won’t be affected like dietary fiber and sugar.
There are somethings that we can do to avoid nutrition value loss; for example controlling your refrigerator’s temperature to at least 5-8°C, keeping fresh and cleaned fruits and packaging it in plastic with holes for 3-5 days in refrigerator.
