Healthy Eating For Down Syndrome Child
Hi Friends of SlimGourmet! Commemorating Down Syndrome Day which falls on March 21, the newsletter will discuss the proper nutrition for people with Down Syndrome, especially the children.
Down Syndrome (DS) is a condition in which a baby is born with an extra chromosome, it affects the brain development that should be running normally, which causes mental and physical problems in a child. Children with Down Syndrome have a risk factor for health problems such as overweight, Auto Immune mainly Coeliac Disease, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Periodontal Disease higher than children in general.
Eating nutritious foods properly can help reduce some of the physical symptoms and improve overall health for people with Down Syndrome. It is important that regulate the correct diet as early as possible so that children with Down Syndrome are not overweight, it is usually because their metabolism is slower in burning calories and also for their facto on thyroid problems.
If a child with Down syndrome experience Coeliac Disease, Gluten Free Diet necessary to maintain their health. Gluten free diet to avoid foods that contain gluten such as barley, rye, pasta, noodles and other foods that are made or containing wheat flour. Gluten can trigger diarrhea, abdominal pain and nutritional deficiencies in children. To prevent Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), should avoid acidic foods, spicy and stimulates digestion. Besides foods rich in vitamin C can help with Periodontal Disease.
